The objectives of the BBKA shall be:

  1. To further the advancement of all breeds of purebred dogs;
  2. To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of all breeds of purebred dogs and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at the dog shows and obedience trials;
  3. To conduct sanctioned matches and dog shows under the rules of the American Kennel Club;
  4. To promote appropriate research in the areas of veterinary animal science.

Eligibility

There shall be two types of memberships:
(1) Active (voting) membership and (2) inactive (non-voting) membership. The inactive membership may be granted upon written request to the Board of Trustees. Membership is open to all persons who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of this Society. While membership is to be unrestricted as to residence, the Society’s primary purpose is to be representative of the breeders and exhibitors in its immediate area.

Dues

Active membership dues are $15.00 for single membership, $25.00 for family. Dues are payable on or before the first day of November of each year.

Election to Membership

  1. In order to become a member, an applicant must submit a completed BBKA application for membership with the Secretary which includes the signatures of two sponsors, both of whom must have been members in good standing for a minimum of one year. Applicant shall also attend one meeting before his/her application can be reviewed by the officers and trustees.
  2. The Secretary will cause to be published in the next monthly Newsletter the name, address, sponsors, and other pertinent information concerning the application. The members will be asked to make appropriate comments to any board member concerning the applicant.
  3. The applicant will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees at its next regular meeting, following publication.
  4. At the next open membership meeting, where a quorum is present, the members shall vote by secret ballot to allow a probationary status of the applicant. A three-quarters (3/4) majority will be necessary for approval. The applicant shall not be present at the open meeting at which the membership vote is taken.
  5. The probationary period shall be a minimum of six (6) months and must include at least one BBKA show.
  6. Following the probation period, the application will be presented first to the Board of Trustees and then to the membership to be voted upon for full membership.
  7. Applicants not approved for membership by the BBKA may not reapply within six months.
